JULIE McDONALD - A classically trained dancer, Julie McDonald studied ballet in Seattle, Washington before moving to Los Angeles where she toured nationally with various dance companies. Soon after, she opened her own dance studio, Room to Move, in Venice where she worked with many of the people she represents today, and where she met her business partner Tony Selznick.
In 1985, she pioneered the "Dance Agency" business, becoming the first talent agent to exclusively represent dancers and choreographers. While breaking ground by representing her clients across all mediums of entertainment, she became an advocate for better terms and working conditions for dancers and choreographers and devoted herself to raising the visibility of the art and craft of commercial dance. What started out as small experiment soon became an industry and in 2000 she and Tony Selznick formed McDonald Selznick Associates. (MSA). Their clients represent a who’s who in the world of choreography and dance.
Collectively, MSA clients have worked with many of the music industry's most influential recording artists including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, Celine Dion, Usher, Leona Lewis, and Barbra Streisand. Their choreography graces numerous Las Vegas productions including Cirque du Soleil's KA, Love, andViva Elvis, as well as Cher's and Donny and Marie's ongoing productions. TV programs such as So You Think You Can Dance, the Oscars, the Emmys, and Dancing With The Stars; memorable ad campaigns for iPod, Coke, and The Gap. On Broadway MSA has been represented by such hit shows as Hairspray, Legally Blonde, The Color Purple, and the upcoming Spiderman. MSA clients have been nominated for, and have won, numerous Emmy, Tony, and MTV awards.
